For the first time

green hydrogen will be produced offshore on an operational platform.

The process for making green hydrogen starts with converting seawater into demineralised water on the platform.

The pilot project aims to investigate the practical aspects of integrating working energy systems at sea and producing hydrogen in an offshore environment, to see how offshore conditions, including salt, affect the electrolyser.

Nel ASA: Nel joins PosHYdon consortium

Nel ASA (Nel, OSE:NEL), joined the consortium agreement for the PosHYdon project, which aims to validate the integration of offshore wind, natural gas, and hydrogen, offshore the Netherlands. Nel will provide a MW-scale PEM electrolyser for the project.

Dutch government grants DEI+ subsidy to PosHYdon, world’s first offshore green hydrogen production

Neptune Energy today announced DEME Offshore, a leader in offshore wind energy and green hydrogen production, will bring its expertise to the PosHYdon pilot, the world’s first offshore green hydrogen project.

Iv-Offshore & Energy one of the proud partners of PosHYdon: world’s first offshore green hydrogen production pilot on a working platform

To achieve the Paris Climate Agreement goals, the supply of sustainable energy must increase significantly. However, realising this takes more than producing wind and solar energy. The offshore production of green hydrogen offers opportunities, but up till now this has never been done before. PosHYdon is world’s first pilot project to validate the integration of three energy systems (offshore wind, offshore gas and offshore hydrogen) on a working platform in the Dutch North Sea by producing hydrogen from seawater.

Our Partners

PosHYdon is an initiative of Nexstep, the Dutch association for decommissioning and reuse, and TNO, the Dutch organisation for applied scientific research, in close collaboration with the sector. Many partners are collaborating with us in the PosHYdon project.
